There is no optical illusion at work here - Rufus really is substantially larger than his sister.
We recently took a family trip to Champaign-Urbana, one of the campuses of the University of Illinois, where I attended a conference of Central Asianists, while Ed manfully remained In Sole Charge.
We had quite nice digs, and the babies enjoyed bathing in Champaign at least as much as they do elsewhere. We have no pictures of scenic downtown Urbana, not wholly coincidentally, but we do have this family portrait of us on the train on the way there. There is a very nice Korean restaurant (simple caf style) on the campus which I recommend to anyone who has business at UIUC: A-Ri-Rang.
