Dulcis in fundo: after all that walking, Jacob earns himself a sweet treat in the Starved Rock Lodge. My main treat that evening, not recorded on camera, was the sighting of my first raccoon, padding about just a little way off from our log cabin at dusk.

Starved Rock
Over spring break, we left Chicago in our enormous old American car to hunt for some nature in the wilds of Illinois. We got as far as Starved Rock state park, a tiny corner of still-wooded Illinois. Jacob loved the trails, and the river, and all the birds, leaves and sticks.
Jacob may not have a huge head of hair, but that doesn't mean he'll put up with a strong wind mussing up what he does have.
